Medicine Buddha Statue, Brass and Copper
This metal Medicine Buddha Statue is cast from copper (the darker colored metal) and brass (the brighter colored metal). These particular Medicine Buddhas measure 12 inches tall. The Medicine Buddha is characterized by having the right hand lowered and facing outward, which is in the pose of granting a blessing or favor. The left hand rests face up in the lap, and there is a bowl with a medicinal plant blooming in it. (If the bowl is empty, then it is not a Medicine Buddha statue). In certain schools of Buddhism, notably the Tibetan and a few other Mahayana Buddhist schools, it is believed that the Buddha gave mankind the knowledge and understanding of medicine.
