Devi is the Divine Mother of the Hindu world. Sri Devi is the
“Mother Goddess,” meaning she is the mother of all. Her name means goddess, and she has many forms or incarnations. Her most familiar forms are ferocious, such as Durga and Kali, or benevolent, such as Parvati. In the form of Parvati, Devi is the consort (wife) of Shiva, the God of Destruction and Regeneration.

As the mother of all life, Devi is gentle, and is the god of nature and life because she brings rain and protects against disease. As mother of death, she is terrible. Lakshmi, wife of Vishnu is an incarnation of Devi. She is the goddess of creative power and represents all women in the universe.

  1. Hi, description of Goddess Laxmi needs to be amended. She is the Goddess of money, or more appropriately “wealth” – all types of wealth monitory or health etc. Goddess Laxmi representing all women in universe is correct. However, Goddess Saraswati is the Goddess of Creative Power. Please make this change. Thanks. Tirumal.
