Porcelain Statue of Kuan Yin Standing on Lotus
Porcelain Kuan Yin statues (also known as Quan Yin and Kwan Yin). Kuan Yin is the Chinese Goddesses of Mercy and Compassion. Quan Yin translates as The One Who Hears the Cries of the World, and she is the Chinese representation of the Boddhisattva Avalokiteswara. It is believed that a Bodhisattva (or Boddhisatva, as it is sometimes spelled), Kuan Yin was a human who has forsaken the final stage of enlightenment in order to help all earthly beings attain enlightenment first. This image of Kuan Yin shows her sitting on a Lotus Blossom, which is a symbol of purity of the heart (since it is able to maintain its beauty despite the fact that it grows in areas surrounded by mud).
