This Heart Sutra Kuan Yin statue stands an impressive 20 inches tall, and is thus one of the largest Kuan Yin statues you will find for your altar. This casting features an engraving of the Mahayana Prayer known as the Heart Sutra (the word "sutra" means "book of knowledge" or "instructions"). The Heart Sutra is well known through the Chinese schools of Buddhism, where the Mahayana branch of Buddhism is strongest.

Kuan Yin can be depicted as either a man or a woman, and as you probably know, Kuan Yin is the Chinese version of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, who is venerated in the Tibetan schools of Buddhism.
