Compassion Is Its Own Reward

Everyone has to pay taxes, but thanks to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, tax day was at least a little bit more enjoyable for us here at The Buddha Garden.

After sealing and stamping the envelope with our tax return (and including the large check that is going to the IRS), and feeling that bitter mood that always surrounds April 15th, I was inspired to write one of our favorite quotes from His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the outside of the envelope:

“If you want to make other happy, practice compassion. If you want to make yourself happy, practice compassion.”

Now, I am not being radical or trying to promote any sort of political statement. I just was hoping that it might bring a smile to whomever might see this quote on the back of the envelope and stop to read it.

Also, since I am sure the people at the IRS are probably overworked right about now, I hope that it might be a reminder that the best way to get out of a bad mood is by doing something nice for someone else.”
